The Mission of the Methodist Church

VISION

The vision of the Logansport Main Street UMC

is to make disciples of Jesus Christ through;

    loving God and neighbor,

   learning to be Christ-like,

  leading through service,

beginning here in Logansport

Before the resurrected Jesus went to be with his Father he gathered with his disciples and gave them this mission—“…go and make disciples of all nations…” This is and has always been the mission of the Church and therefore it remains our mission today, but at Logansport Main Street we have asked how we might uniquely fulfill this mission. For us the answer came in this way—by loving God and neighbor, learning to be Christ-like, leading through service—all beginning here in Logansport.

LOVING

Matthew 28:16-20

Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was and his answer went something like this: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and the second is like it. Love your neighbor as yourself.” At Main Street we continue to experience God’s love in so many ways, and it is our desire to return that love back to God through worship and service, and through expressing it to our neighbor. We invite you come experience and express God’s love with us.

LEARNING

1 Corinthians 11:1-2

This love is most faithfully expressed as we become imitators of Christ. Paul, an earlier leader of the Church, invited us to imitate him as he imitated Christ. This is a learning process and at Main Street we do this through working to understand God’s word, expressed to us through the Bible, in today’s fast paced, got to have it now world. This is a deliberate slowing down and spending some time with Jesus, through preaching, teaching, prayer, study, fellowship… We invite you to come join us in learning to be more Christ-like.

LEADING

Matthew 20:25-28

There is nothing more faithfully like Christ than a heart and life of service. Jesus said if we want to be great we must be the servant of all. Reminding us that he came not to serve but to be served and give his life for ours. At Main Street our desire is to faithfully follow and serve Jesus by serving our neighbors. We do this through sharing our gifts, talents and resources in ways that faithfully express the love we have experienced from Jesus. We invite you to join us in faithful service to our neighbors.

LOGANSPORT

Acts 1:6-11

Faithful service has to have a beginning point. Jesus told his disciples that they would be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judah, Samarian and to the ends of the earth. For us our beginning point is on the corner of Main and Montgomery Streets here on the south side of Logansport. Our ministry starts here, but by God’s grace it does not end here. From this corner on the south side of Logansport God truly reaches around the world. We invite you to join us in loving, learning, and leading—beginning here in Logansport.
